What does a MacBook repair at ThePhoneLab cost?
The cost of the repair depends on the model and type of repair, such as a MacBook screen repair or battery replacement. It also depends on which quality part you choose.
Here you will find a clear price table for each model, so you always know where you stand. -
Do I need to prepare my device before visiting?
Preparing your MacBook for a repair is neither necessary nor sometimes possible. However, it can slightly speed up the repair process if your MacBook is fully up-to-date with the latest software version and the battery is sufficiently charged.
In addition, we recommend disabling “Find My” or putting your device in repair mode. Can’t do this yourself? In that case, make sure that your Apple ID login information is known so that our specialists can do this safely with you. This is only necessary with an original Apple part.
No matter how small, every repair carries some risk. That’s why we always recommend backing up your important data in advance via iCloud or on a hard drive. This keeps your photos, contacts and files safe even in the event of an unexpected malfunction, loss or theft, regardless of the repair. After all, you never know.
Don’t have time to do this? No worries, our specialists at ThePhoneLab in %location% are also happy to help you without preparation.

Having your MacBook repaired with compatible parts usually voids the factory warranty, but at ThePhoneLab you do get a lifetime warranty on the performance of the replaced part. This way you are always assured of quality and security, no matter what choice you make.

A MacBook repair at ThePhoneLab takes an average of 1 to 2 hours, provided the part is in stock. We have our own-brand screens and batteries readily available for most MacBooks. What is the difference between original parts and your own brand parts?
The difference between original Apple parts and high-end alternatives is in origin, software recognition and price.
Genuine parts are supplied directly by Apple, are identical to factory parts and are automatically recognized by MacOS – without notifications.
High-end alternatives are not Apple’s own, but have been carefully tested. They may have minor differences in brightness, color or fit and sometimes are not recognized by iOS as “original. This does not affect the operation of your MacBook.
-
What exactly does Apple's "Independent Repair Provider" mean?
“Independent Repair Provider” (IRP) is an official Apple program that allows companies, such as ThePhoneLab, to use genuine Apple parts and tools for repairs outside of Apple itself.
Our specialists follow Apple’s guidelines and use the same software and calibration equipment as Apple Stores. So you can come to ThePhoneLab for an original MacBook repair while maintaining quality and reliability.
-
What does "no cure, no pay" mean?
“No cure, no pay” literally means: no solution, no payment.
At ThePhoneLab, you only pay if we can actually fix your MacBook. If we can’t fix the problem, we won’t charge you for research or diagnostics. That way you always know where you stand, which is fair and transparent!
-
Should I disable "Find My" for a repair?
You only need to disable “Find My” if you choose an original Apple repair and if your device is not up-to-date with the latest iOS version.
With recent software versions, this is no longer necessary because Apple devices with the latest macOS can calibrate components in the settings on the device itself.
Our specialists will always indicate if your MacBook requires you to turn off “Find My” before the repair starts. Of course, we also help if you can’t manage this yourself.
-
How will you handle my privacy during the repair?
At ThePhoneLab, we take great care with your privacy. You can always watch during the repair, so you can see exactly what happens to your MacBook.
We open or test your device only to the extent necessary to determine or verify the problem and only if you give us permission to do so! This is never mandatory.
Our specialists follow strict guidelines and treat every device with respect and care, ensuring that your personal data is always kept safe.
-
Can I have accessories or a screen protector installed during the repair?
Yes, at ThePhoneLab you can also have accessories fitted or purchased during your repair. We have a wide range of products such as screen protectors that we perfectly fit for you, covers, chargers, powerbanks, computer mice, HDMI adapters and much more.

Can I sell my old MacBook?
Many people still have an old MacBook sitting gathering dust in a closet somewhere. A shame! These devices often have a good residual value and deserve a second life. By selling your old Apple MacBook, you kill two birds with one stone: you do something good for the environment and for your wallet. And the best part? It only takes a few clicks to arrange everything!
-
What is the lifespan of a Macbook?
The lifespan of a MacBook depends mainly on two factors: how you handle it and how stringent your requirements are. (spoiler: sometimes up to 12 years!)
Regular maintenance plays an important role in this regard. It is wise to clean your MacBook periodically. In case of intensive use in a dusty environment our specialists recommend to do this annually. If you use your MacBook in a cleaner environment, then once every 2 to 3 years is usually sufficient. This way you avoid overheating, noise and unnecessary wear.
In addition, the battery is a major wear item. A MacBook battery is designed for about 500 charge cycles. With heavy use, this often means the battery needs replacement after 3 to 4 years.
Software also plays a role. Apple supports MacBooks for about 7 years on average with major macOS updates. After that, security updates often remain available for some time, but new features do not. For many users, this is not a problem as long as the MacBook remains stable and secure.
If you take good care of your MacBook and your requirements in terms of the latest features are not extremely high, then you can easily last 6 to 8 years. In fact, we regularly see customers who are still very satisfied with a MacBook that is 10 to 12 years old. So with timely maintenance, internal cleaning and battery replacement, you can easily get 10 years or more out of a MacBook. That also makes it a sustainable choice.
