Will my insurance cover damage to my device?

It depends on your coverage. Whether it’s a phone, laptop or tablet – these are the most common insurance policies and what they cover:

    Covers accidental damage such as a dropped phone, broken laptop screen or wet tablet. The most comprehensive contents coverage and covers device damage in most cases.

    Covers only fire, burglary and water damage from leakage. It almost never covers a broken screen, fallen laptop or water damage from rain.

What is typically covered and not covered?

Regardless of the insurer, these rules of thumb apply:

  • ✅ Usually reimbursed

    • 📱Broken screen due to fall damage
    • 💧Water damage caused by an accident
    • 🔧Self-inflicted damage (all-risk)
    • 👜Damage outside the home (outdoor coverage).
    • 🔋Defective battery (depending on policy).

    • ⏱️Ordinary wear or aging
    • 🚫Claims that existed prior to the policy
    • 💣Intentionally caused damage
    • Loss or loss (unless specifically covered)
    • 🔩Software problems or factory errors
