What is and can the new iPhone SE do? Apple just announced the new iPhone SE at their keynote. In recent years, Apple has never had a device focused on mid-range smartphones, as Samsung has with its Samsung mini series and Sony with its compact models. It is therefore the first time since the release of the iPhone 2G that Apple has released a new iPhone around March. Apple could not be left behind competitors such as Samsung or Huawei who are launching more and more budget smartphones.
Same frame as the 5S with rose gold added
The iPhone SE has the same build and look as the iPhone 5S that came out two years back. However, Apple did add the color rose gold to the available models
Same computing power as the iPhone 6S
The iPhone SE will have the same A9 chip as the iPhone 6S and 6S plus. So the iPhone Se will be a more compact version of the iphone 6S with equally fast computing power.
Same camera as the iPhone 6S
The iPhone SE can shoot 4K videos and has the same 12MP pixel camera as the iPhone 6S. So the photos and videos will be of the same quality as those of the iPhone 6S and 6S plus.
No 3D touch, retina display, better battery though.
Perhaps you are now beginning to wonder if an iPhone SE is exactly the same as an iPhone 6S or 6S plus but in a smaller version? They may have the same camera and chip, but the iPhone SE does not have 3D touch or retina display. However, the iPhone SE’s battery did receive an upgrade that makes it last longer than that of an iPhone 5S.
A smaller screen for a smaller price
Apple will sell the iPhone SE at the end of March in the united states and at the end of May to europe including the netherlands. The iPhone SE is being marketed at the cheapest price since the beginning of iPhone, a manageable $400. Which in the Netherlands will probably be €400. The SE will be available in 16GB and 64GB variants.
Clearly, Apple listened to its customers and the market last year. Many users struggled with the large screens of the iPhone 6 and 6S. In addition to targeting consumers with a smaller budget for an iPhone, this iPhone SE also targets people who prefer a smaller 4-inch screen to the 4.7-inch screens.
In short, the iPhone SE is an iPhone 5S with the camera and computing capacity of an iPhone 6S for $400.
