Phone no longer turns on due to charging problems
If your phone stops turning on, it could be due to a charging problem. Logically, if your battery doesn’t charge you can’t do much with your smartphone. Charging problems can flare up due to several factors. For example, your charging port may be full of dust, causing the connector to no longer make contact with your charger. It’s also always useful to check your power supply: your outlet, charging cable and adapter. It will happen to you; you think it’s the phone turns out the problem is with the power supply. Are you using MagSafe, USB-C or wireless charging? If so, also test a different cable, adapter or charging pad and try charging your phone from a laptop or other power source. If you want to know more about charging problems, read the blog: Phone no longer charging? Here’s what you can do about it.
Phone won’t boot up due to water damage
If your phone has come into contact with water and then stopped responding, it is almost certain that your phone has water damage. It is important to take quick action when water damage occurs. First, it is important that you turn off the smartphone right away. Next, remove the SIM card holder from the device this will allow the water to evaporate slightly. Then get to a professional phone repair shop near you as soon as possible (e.g., check out all of ThePhoneLab’s locations). Want to know more about water damage? Battery in need of replacement
Your phone still won’t boot up? This could just be due to a faulty battery. Unfortunately, batteries have a limited lifespan. Therefore, the battery could just be the reason your phone won’t turn on. To find out if your battery is the reason behind this problem, we recommend visiting a specialist. At ThePhoneLab, we perform a free diagnosis to find out the reason.
Defective screen
In most cases, you can tell when your smartphone screen is broken – for example, if it’s cracked or if you have streaks or smudges in your image – but in some cases, your LCD or OLED screen is broken without being visible to the naked eye. Fortunately, a specialist with the right knowledge can figure out why your phone/screen no longer turns on. Do you want to solve this problem? At ThePhoneLab, we always perform a free diagnostic first so you know where you stand.
Possible solution: hard reset or factory reset
In some cases, you can fix your problem with a hard reset: a hard reset allows you to restart the phone without losing data. Per phone, the reset method varies.
- For Samsung models, you perform this as follows: You need to press and hold two buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds. These are: the power button and volume down (-) button.
- For the iPhone, perform this as follows:
- iPhone 7/ 7 Plus: Press and hold the lock and volume down buttons simultaneously for 15 seconds until the Apple logo becomes visible.
- iPhone 8 and all models without a home button: briefly press the volume up button. Press the volume down button briefly. Then press and hold the lock button until the Apple logo is visible.
- For other brands, you will have to look up the user manual to find out how to do a hard reset.
Unfortunately, the hard reset does not always work and you are sometimes forced to perform a factory reset. Please note that this will cause you to lose all data! That’s why it’s always smart to back up your phone. On a Samsung, you can do this through a key combination to perform the hard reset. To perform a hard reset, hold down the following key combinations while booting the device:
Turn off your phone, press and hold the power key and volume up key, then press and hold the power key. Release the keys when the Android mascot appears. When the Android system restore menu appears, use the volume down key to select “Wipe Data / Factory Reset” and press the Power key to continue. Select “Yes” and proceed again. Select “Restart system now” if factory settings are restored.
