The audiochip is coming off

The issues that appear with the iPhone 7 microphone and iPhone 7 Plus microphone are so called ‘loop diseases’. New York based iPad Rehab owner Jessa Jones even calls it epidemic. A microphone that is not function is already quite inconvenient, but some users even experience worse problems then just the microphone.  Their iPhones crash or start malfunctioning when the phone is starting up and the Apple-logo is showing.

If you want to fix a problem, you are going to want to find out where the origin of the problem is coming from. In this case the issue starts because the audiochip coming off or no longer has a connection. The audiochip is located on the motherboard, very close to your SIM card.

Find the 3 microphones

Fixing a ‘loop disease’ yourself is a difficult task. However, you can do a little pre investigation yourself. A iPhone 7 has 3 microphones. This means that issues with your microphone can manifest them selfs in various ways. First step in your pre investigation is finding all 3 microphones. You will find microphone #1 next to your camera on the front side of your iPhone, microphone #2 is placed next to the camera on the back side of your iPhone and microphone #3 you’ll find on the bottom of your iPhone.

Putting it to the test

You can figure out yourself which of the 3 microphones is causing the issue. By making a short video with the selfie camera of your iPhone you can discover if the problem is caused by microphone #1.

If you make a video with the camera on the back side of your iPhone you can find out of the problem is caused by microphone #2. Does the sound of your video sound as it should? Then both microphone #1 and #2 are not causing the problem.

This does not mean you can automatically assume the issue is with microphone #3, you have to test this one as well.  Wondering how? Open the dictaphone app and start recording. Does the recording sound shrill or as if it’s coming from far away? Then microphone #3 is in all likelihood the bad guy.

Are you unable to record with the dictaphone app, is the recording button grey and you can’t press it? You may now conclude that all microphones are working as they should but it is your audio chip that is defect.

Another way to test if your audio chip is working correctly is making a phone call. Are you unable to put the phone on speaker and is the button grey like in the below picture?

Then we unfortunately have to conclude that the audio chip is broken.
