iPad not charging / Replace iPad charging port
Are you just planning to enjoy Netflix, Candy Crush or doom scrolling. Is your iPad empty … Super irritating! You put it on the charger but after an hour it is still not on. Perhaps your iPad’s charging port is in need of replacement.
Want to know the cost and options for replacing your iPad’s charging port? Or first see if there is something else going on? Then you’ve come to the right place at ThePhoneLab!
Your iPad is not charging? Check the power supply
You may have already thought of this; it is important to first rule out that your problem is not due to a faulty adapter or charging cable. Fortunately, you can easily test this. You do this by using a different adapter and charging cable than the one you originally used.
Also check that you are not accidentally using your iPhone’s adapter (charging block). Make sure your charger is at least 12W. The standard iPhone adapter is 5W and cannot provide enough power to charge your iPad properly. Do look for your reading glasses right away because this is often printed very small on the charger.
Also, don’t forget to check if the problem is due to a faulty outlet!
Another problem affecting the power supply is a clogged charging port. By dust and dirt in your charging port the charging port (also called the connector) cannot connect to the charger. You can remove the dust yourself with a thin object. But be careful with this, you may damage some things internally. Want to be sure of your case? If so, we recommend having this done by a specialist to avoid permanent damage to the charging port. At ThePhoneLab, we do this for free: you can always stop by for a free MOT. In the process, we will clean your charging port (and other ports), perform a test on all functions and clean your device properly.
It is also possible that a piece of your charging cable has broken off in the charging port. When removing it, you can cause a lot of damage. Therefore, we recommend that you stop by immediately for a free MOT.
Different repair options
How your charging port can be replaced varies from iPad to iPad. Some models feature a Lightning connector soldered to the motherboard. This makes replacement more expensive and time-consuming. iPad Pro models usually have an easier to replace USB-C connector. All iPads feature a glued-down screen, which also makes the repair more difficult. As a result, the cost is often higher than a comparable connector repair on, say, an iPhone.
First, it is helpful to determine which iPad you have.
You can read how to do that on this page
.
Now do you know which iPad you have? Then go to the repairs for that model and select the connector repair. Here you can see the exact cost. Is this repair on request? Then we will review the availability and cost of your iPad’s connector repair on a case-by-case basis. In the case of a Lightning connector repair, this usually involves soldering. We cannot perform these repairs on-site at the store and therefore take an average of a week to complete. Our soldering specilaist will then solder a new charging port to the motherboard. That way you can Netflix again with peace of mind!
iPad not charging due to battery problems
In some cases, the battery is in such poor condition that you experience problems charging your iPad. Each battery has a different lifespan that we influence by our use. Not only does usage play an important role, the method of charging also affects the lifespan. It is important that you always use a certified charger. Using an incorrectly certified cable can damage the Tristar (power management) chip in your iPad. This can eventually result in charging problems. In some cases, the iPad can no longer be charged at all. By using a proper charger, your battery will last a lot longer. If your battery is no longer good, you can replace your iPad battery.
