Preparation, this is what you need
Transferring from Android to iPhone goes smoothest if you check this first:
- Your iPhone is new, or just wiped and is still in the settings screen, otherwise you won’t see the Android option.
- Both devices have enough battery, or are on the charger.
- You have a stable Wi-Fi connection, or you use a cable for faster transmission.
- Your Google account still works, this is useful for additional backups and your Play Store purchases.
Note! To be on the safe side, before transferring your data, it is best to backup your Android data, such as with your Google Account. It is also useful to back up your chats in Whatsapp.
Use ‘Switch to iOS’
Apple uses the app ‘Switch to iOS‘ on your Samsung. This transfers important items such as contacts, messages, photos and videos, files, and some app data in one go, depending on the app.
Step 1
First, turn on your new iPhone. Pick your language, country and region. Next, tap Configure Manually. Then choose a Wi-Fi network to connect to. Walk through the steps of choosing your privacy settings, Face ID or Touch ID. Then a screen will come up with different ways to transfer data. Here, choose ‘ Transfer data from Android‘.
Step 2
Open the ‘Switch to iOS‘ app on your Samsung device. Tap Agreed to agree to Apple’s policy. Tap Continue and follow the steps in the app. You may see a screen about sharing app usage, choose what you’re comfortable with there, then tap again
Continue
.
Step 3
On your iPhone, see if a code came into view. Now enter that code on your Samsung to link the transfer. Then you choose which data you do and do not want to transfer. Then tap Continue to start the transfer.
Step 4
The data will now be transferred. Let this process proceed quietly, and make sure both devices have enough battery or leave them on the charger. When the progress bar on the Samsung and iPhone are finished, you can press Continue tap. On the iPhone, you can now go through the further steps of preparing your iPhone, such as entering your Apple ID and setting up Siri.
Transfer faster with a cable, if you can do it
If you want to do it faster and more stable, or you have a busy Wi-Fi network in your home, you can also opt for a wired connection during “Switch to iOS,” if your devices and cable support it. This often saves a lot of time with large photo libraries and videos.
Transferring WhatsApp chats, here’s how to avoid surprises
WhatsApp can also join these days via “Switch to iOS,” but this works best if you prepare it neatly. Do this before you start:
- Update WhatsApp on your Samsung to the latest version.
- Use the same phone number on both devices for WhatsApp.
- Get your iPhone ready in the setup screen, WhatsApp transfer usually only works with a new, or just deleted iPhone.
During “Switch to iOS,” the data selection gives you the option to include WhatsApp, choose that on if your chats are important.
Transferring apps, what does and does not happen
An iPhone cannot copy apps one-to-one from Android, because Android apps are not the same as iOS apps. What usually happens is this:
- Free apps that exist on both Android and iPhone are prepared for download on your iPhone.
- Paid apps sometimes need to be repurchased from the App Store; this varies by app and provider.
- Login credentials don’t usually take you automatically, so you log in again often, think banking, socials, and streaming.
Solving common problems
- The Android option is not on my iPhone, this usually happens when the iPhone is already set up. You then need a new, or just deleted iPhone to see “Transfer data from Android.
- The transfer gets stuck, put both devices on the charger, turn on bluetooth on your Samsung when prompted, and try again with a stable wifi connection, or choose a cable if you can.
- Not everything came along, check on your Samsung that you have everything checked, and check on your iPhone that your Apple ID, iCloud and Photos are set properly. Some app data is simply not transferable because it’s in the app itself.
-
How long does it take to transfer from Android to iPhone?
This depends mainly on how much data you have. If you have a lot of photos, videos and files, the process can take one to several hours. Using a cable is often faster and more stable than via Wi-Fi.
-
Can I transfer my Android data later if my iPhone is already set up?
No, the “Transfer data from Android” option appears only on a new or just deleted iPhone. If your device is already set up, you must first wipe and reset it to still transfer everything.
-
What data will be transferred automatically?
‘Switch to iOS’ often transfers contacts, text messages, photos, videos, calendars, files and some app data. Not all apps and data can be included, this varies by app.
-
Do I need to re-download apps on my iPhone?
Yes, apps are not literally copied. Free apps that also exist on iPhone are automatically prepared in the App Store. You still have to download them and often log in again.
-
Why does the transfer jam or stop?
This could be due to a bad wifi connection, a dead battery or interference between the devices. Make sure both devices are charged, close together and preferably use a stable wifi connection or a cable.
-
Will my data remain secure during the transfer process?
Yes, Apple uses a secure connection during the transfer. Still, it’s always wise to backup your Android device beforehand so you don’t lose anything.
