Screen repairs – where do the price differences come from?
Screen repairs – what exactly is the difference?
Your phone drops, panic in the tent! With bloodied thumbs, you try to type the term “screen repair” on Google on the splintered screen. The supply is overwhelming, a do-it-yourselfer, a corner phone store and, as icing on the cake, your second cousin’s cousin who was tagged in the panicked Facebook post about your broken screen. Finally, hopefully a professional repair company (like ourselves :)).
Prices vary widely, from 50 to as much as 180 euros, all for the same device. We’ll give you a little more insight into these price differences so that when choosing your repairman, you know what you’re getting.
Cheap is expensive
We are all of us in the Netherlands: bargain hunters. We compare ourselves stupidly and, as a result, often stare blindly at the price. However, another factor plays an incredibly large role in the repair industry: the quality of the phone repair.
A smartphone & tablet repair company has an endless number of different types of quality in terms of purchased parts. From BB+ to AAAA+, to the original screens from the phone manufacturer itself. Needless to say, these screens differ greatly in price. Zou you can buy the same iPhone screen from €15 but also one from €80. So where is the huge difference in price?
You guessed it: quality. A counterfeit screen with non-original LCD or OLED and counterfeit glass may be very cheap, but in the long run it often results in problems that make you have to have your screen repaired once again. Therefore, the prices of a screen repair can vary from 50 and 150 euros at a store.
That different companies have different prices is a fact; one company calculates its selling price in a different way than another. For example, at your second cousin’s cousin’s house, you may only be able to pay in cash, but you won’t get a receipt. Surely the main difference in price is in the purchase price. A cheaper screen is of lesser quality a more expensive screen is often of good quality.
In any case, check carefully what quality the company is posting for the price asked. Also decide for yourself what kind of quality you want. After all, your smartphone didn’t come cheap either. A cheap part can be unreliable and even cause damage to your expensive smartphone.
Important to keep in mind: most manufacturers will void the warranty if non-original parts are found in your device. This can be annoying when you want to claim the manufacturer’s warranty.
