Samsung screen in black and white? Solve it this way!
It is quite a shame if your beautiful Samsung screen only shows things in black and white, since the screen can show up to 16 million colors! So if your phone only projects the screen in two colors, that’s a bit of a shock. Don’t panic though, often this is software related and can be fixed quickly. To fix this problem, you can try the following options.
In this blog, we discuss:
- Check your color settings for black and white filters
- Check ‘Sleep’ settings
- Restore the factory settings
- Check energy saving and accessibility options
Check your color settings for black and white filters
Someone may have secretly adjusted your screen’s color filters. For example, you can set a number of different filters and one of them is the black and white filter. To reset this, go to the settings and click ‘Accessibility’. Then click on ‘Color Correction,’ and turn it off. Then the screen should show the original colors again, if not, check the next step.
Check your ‘Sleep’ settings
There may also be some sort of sleep mode enabled, this limits or disables certain functions. This way you are less disturbed during the preset hours and it is easier to get or stay asleep. One of the options within this mode is to set your Samsung’s screen to black and white. To disable the entire mode or a particular item, open the settings. From here you click on “Modes and Routines,” there is the heading “Sleep. If you click on it, you can disable or personalize it. This is how you manage to get the colors back in your phone.
Restore the factory settings
Should none of these solutions work and the screen remains black and white, you can still try restoring the device to factory settings. Before doing this, it is important to make a good backup. The best way to do this is through Smart Switch, open the app on your phone and on your computer. Then connect your Samsung to the computer and go through the steps on the screen.
Check energy saving and accessibility options
On some newer Samsung devices, the screen may automatically switch to black and white when power saving or certain accessibility options are active. Therefore, also check if power saving mode is enabled via Settings → Battery and device maintenance → Battery → Power saving. Disable it temporarily and see if colors return. It may also help to disable other accessibility options such as “Grayscale” or “Enhance Visibility,” as these features can affect color reproduction.
