Samsung Galaxy Ring, revolution or gimmick?
This summer, Samsung came out with something that feels futuristic: the Samsung Galaxy Ring. This smart ring promises to revolutionize wearable technology, but it also raises questions. What makes this gadget different from the many other wearables on the market? Is the Samsung galaxy a revolution or a gimmick? In this blog, we will tell you all about it:
-What makes the Samsung Galaxy Ring unique?
-What data does the ring collect?
-Is this futuristic ring worth the price?
What makes the Samsung Galaxy Ring unique?
The Samsung Galaxy Ring, as you would expect from a ring, is a lot smaller than a smartwatch – but don’t let that modest size fool you. Despite its minimalist design, it is packed with features you would normally find in a smartwatch. From measuring your heart rate to tracking your sleep patterns and sports performance. But what the Galaxy Ring really excels at is giving advice. And not just any advice – the kind you need but may not want to hear. Think, for example, of notifications that you need to get out of bed or get more sleep. So this ring is not only a health monitor, but also your new (and somewhat cheeky) personal health coach.
Although the ring is useful for tracking basic activity such as steps and calories burned, automatic detection of different sports is limited and you have to add some activities manually. Finally, the battery life of the Galaxy ring does last much longer compared to the average smartwatch, for example, it goes at least seven days on a full battery, according to Samsung. This means you can have it on in your sleep without worry, this makes the sleep tracker of this little wearable very accurate.
What data does the ring collect?
Like any modern smartwatch, the Galaxy Ring features measuring your heart rate, sleep quality, blood oxygen levels and skin temperature. This data is processed in the Samsung health app where you’ll be met head on after your undone workout. Because you’re in a winter slump right? So measuring your health is through your phone’s health app, the Galaxy ring is way too small for a display.
The Galaxy Ring uses Samsung’s AI, which not only collects your health data, but actually does something useful with it. The AI collects all the data and puts it side by side to make an analysis. It then gives you an “energy score,” a sort of rating for your daily energy level. Although the ring is useful for tracking basic activity such as steps and calories burned, automatic detection of different sports is limited and you have to add some activities manually.
Is this futuristic ring worth the price?
A ring that you wear, measures your health and then feel free to forget about for a week without recharging sounds like the perfect Christmas present, right? The Samsung Galaxy Ring is compact, collects all kinds of health data, and automatically analyzes that data to give you useful insights. Sounds like a lot of benefits in a small package.
But there is one big drawback: the price. For this trendy gift, you will spend about €450. That’s not a small investment for most people. Of course, for that you do get an advanced wearable with lots of functions, but it’s still a hefty amount for such a small device. So, if you really want to surprise your dad AND your budget allows, then this futuristic gift might be worth it. But for most, it’s still just a little too pricey to put in the Christmas sock.
