How do you do a hard reset on your iPhone? Check out these tips!
Is your iPhone constantly crashing, is it extremely slow or do you just want to sell it? In all three cases, a hard reset on your iPhone can help. In this blog, we cover the following topics:
- What is a hard reset?
- How do you perform a hard reset on your iPhone?
What is a hard reset?
A hard reset involves forcibly rebooting your iPhone. This involves emptying the entire working memory without anything happening to your data. So when you do a hard reset on your iPhone, you don’t have to worry about losing your vacation snapshots or that cute girl’s phone number. In this area, a hard reset distinguishes itself from factory reset. In that operation, you do lose all your data!
How do you perform a hard reset on your iPhone?
The way you perform a hard reset varies by model. The following explains which button combination to use for each iPhone model:
- Hard reset iPhone 4 through iPhone 6S and all iPads (at least until 2021): press and hold the home and lock buttons simultaneously for 15 seconds until the Apple logo becomes visible.
- Hard reset iPhone 7/ 7 Plus: press and hold the lock and volume down buttons simultaneously for 15 seconds until the Apple logo becomes visible.
- Hard reset iPhone 8 and all models without a home button: briefly press the volume up button. Press the volume down button briefly. Then press and hold the lock button until the Apple logo becomes visible.
Does your iPhone not reboot after you perform these steps? Then consult this article from Apple. Are you still not getting there? Possibly something else is going on, take a look as well:
