An iPad with TouchID or FaceID is super convenient for securing your device – until you forget the login code. Because you normally use your finger or face to unlock, your code is no longer top-of-mind when your iPad does suddenly ask for the code again. Suddenly, you can’t do anything, because with multiple incorrect PINs, the iPad automatically locks up. ThePhoneLab’s specialists come to the rescue!

Forgotten iPad access code

It can happen to the best of us: forgetting the iPad’s passcode. Especially since the introduction of TouchID and FaceID and you almost never have to enter it again. The good news is that your iPad is very well protected against malicious people, the bad news is that you are now the victim of this. Unfortunately, you have to reinstall your iPad’s software and restore your backup. Don’t have a backup? Then, unfortunately, you’ve lost your data. Fortunately, your iPad makes its own iCloud backup by default so there is a good chance that you can recover (part of) your data. However, you always need the login of the Apple ID.

How? You can read about that here!

iPad restore with computer

If you forgot the iPad’s PIN, you can put the iPad into recovery mode via a computer. You restore the PIN, as well as all other settings and data, this way. After this, you can reset the iPad with the backup, or you can configure the tablet as a new device. After this, you can log in again.

1. Turn off the iPad. Press and hold the home button until you can select “Turn off. Doesn’t your iPad have a home button? Then press and hold one of the volume buttons and the top button at the same time until you can select “Turn Off. To be safe, wait a minute after you turn off the iPad.

2. Now put the iPad into recovery mode.
– To do this, first open “Finder,” “iTunes” or the “Apple Devices app” (this depends on the version you have).
– Connect the iPad to the computer with a usb cable.
– Press and hold the home button and the volume-up button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears (for other versions: hold the top button while briefly pressing the volume-up button and then the volume-down button once).
– You can now turn off and restore the iPad.

3. Now locate the iPad in the app you opened on the computer and choose “Restore. Once the computer has downloaded the software, turn off the iPad, disconnect the iPad and restart your iPad. And on!

Restore iPad with Apple ID

Even without a computer, you can restore the iPad in two ways:
1. Is the Find My iPad feature enabled? Then you can use your Apple ID via iCloud.com to wipe the iPad via “Erase iPad. After the reset, you can use and set up your iPad again.
2. If you have entered the wrong login code multiple times, the iPad will automatically display the “Clear iPad” option. After this, you will still have to enter your Apple ID, after which you can use and set up your iPad again.

The disadvantage of these two ways is that you need a recent backup to avoid losing data.
