Have you forgotten your MacBook password and can’t log in to your laptop? No worries! With the solutions and tips on this page, you’ll have access to your Mac again in no time.

How can I log in to my MacBook without a password?

Even if you panic when you forget your MacBook’s administrator password, remember that there are always solutions. In the extreme, you’ll have to reset your laptop, something you’d rather not do – especially if you don’t have proper backups. So check out the following tips first:
– As obvious as it may seem, first check that you’re using the correct upper and lower case letters, that Caps Lock is disabled, that your laptop is set to the correct language and that you’re really using your Mac user account login password, rather than the password for your Apple ID.
– Reboot the MacBook Air/Pro by holding down the power button, connect to a Wi-Fi network and check that you have a reminder set up. If so, you can click on the question mark in the login window. Does no question mark appear? Then enter a password up to three times. Depending on your type of MacBook, different options appear for creating a new password:

  1. ‘Reboot and show password recovery options’
  2. ‘Resetting with your Apple ID’
  3. ‘Reset with your recovery code/restore key’
  4. The utilities window will open. Reset your password via “Terminal” and “Deactivate Mac.
  5. ‘Your account has been locked. Please try again in…’

Resetting MacBook if you forgot your password

Can’t reset your password despite all the tips and solutions above? Then, unfortunately, there is nothing left but to reset your MacBook. Resetting macOS can have unpleasant consequences, such as data loss. So always make sure you have a good backup of all your apps, passwords, documents and other data!

Set new password by erasing Mac

By clearing macOS, you can set a password again. You do this by restarting the Mac (possibly by holding down the power button). Using the “Recovery Assistant,” you can wipe the Mac: click “Wipe Mac” in the menu bar. After this, you can reset macOS. Is this not working out? Then your Mac probably does not recognize the correct hard drive structure.

Change the structure of the hard disk through the following steps:

1. Hold down the Command keys () + Q and exit the installation program.
2. Click ‘Disk Utility’ in the utility window and click ‘Continue’.
3. In the navigation column, click on the first option.
4. Under the tab or delete button, enter the following information:
– Name: Macintosh HD
– Structure: macOS Extended (journaled)
– Layout (if possible): GUID partition layout
5. Click “Delete” twice.
6. Again, hold the Command () + Q to return to the Utilities window and reinstall macOS.
