MacBook battery dies quickly
Does your MacBook’s battery drain quickly every time, just when you’re enjoying working on the train or in your favorite coffee shop without an outlet? There are a number of ways you can help your battery last longer. On this page you can read the tips and tricks from the specialists at ThePhoneLab.
MacBook performance level too high
Once your MacBook has to process more than its battery can handle, it makes sense that it will drain faster. The laptop then operates at a (too) high performance level. Saving energy will have the fastest effect in that case. Just like on your smartphone, on your MacBook you can close certain apps or disconnect accessories, allow videos to play in automatic video selection, turn on sleep mode or, for example, adjust the brightness of your screen so that the battery has less power to supply.
MacBook battery settings
Through your MacBook’s system settings, you can also set your battery usage to be as efficient as possible so that it drains less quickly. It depends on what kind of MacBook Pro or MacBook Air you have, but on most laptops you can turn the following settings on or off from the Apple menu at > “System Settings” and > “Battery.
- The ‘Power Mode’ you can turn on to the three levels ‘Low Power’, ‘Automatic’ or to ‘High Power’. This determines the power mode for when you use the MacBook on the battery or power adapter.
- From the information button under “Battery Condition,” you can choose “Optimized Charging” and “Battery Life Management.
- Under “Options,” you can make the choices “Place hard drives in hibernation if possible” and/or “Automatic video selection.
CPU Activity
The processor of all Apple MacBooks is called the CPU. When the processor has a lot to process, it consumes a huge amount of energy and drains the battery quickly. Through the “Activity View,” you can see which processes are running and which are demanding the most power from the CPU. With one simple click, you can immediately forcefully stop the culprit. And on!
Power Nap MacBook
Some MacBooks have the Power Nap feature, which means the laptop can perform a variety of tasks even in sleep mode. These include syncing e-mails or the iCloud. Whereas on a Mac this can have a lot of effect on battery consumption, the Power Nap feature on a MacBook only works when it is connected to power. Moreover, most of Apple’s latest devices are designed so that a Power Nap feature is unnecessary when it comes to power consumption.
MacBook battery replacement
Have you tried the above tips, but nothing helped? Of course, old age can also be the cause of a malfunctioning battery. In that case, you might consider the battery of your MacBook to replace. Also, if the battery drains quickly and stops charging properly or if your MacBook fails while there is still plenty of power left, chances are the laptop is in need of a replacement battery.
