Good news for everyone who likes to give their phone a new life: all ThePhoneLab stores in the Netherlands are officially certified by Groen Gedaan. With this, an independent party confirms what we have been practicing for years; repair instead of replace, reuse where possible, and recycle what really can’t go on.
Why this certification matters
Groen Gedaan strictly assesses companies on their actual sustainability performance: from energy consumption and waste streams to purchasing policy and the way employees are included in the green course. You don’t get a hallmark through fine words, but through consistent choices, store by store, day after day. The fact that all our stores have passed the inspection is a milestone for us.
What happens in our stores
At ThePhoneLab, we choose repair over replacement by default. We work with original and refurbished parts whenever possible and take broken devices in for responsible recycling. Parts that are still usable are given a second life in other repairs. In this way, we keep valuable resources such as cobalt, lithium and gold out of the waste stream.
Boris Blijham, owner of ThePhoneLab
“I am incredibly proud of our team. This certification is not a merit of the head office, but of every specialist who chooses every day to repair instead of throw away. With Green Done in our pocket, we now have black-on-white recognition for that. And we still have a long way to go: we want to further expand our sustainable services in the Netherlands in the coming years.
Job Hoogendam, sustainability officer
“What makes this process so special is that we didn’t have one pilot store certified, but the entire network at once. That forces you to really embed sustainability into your processes: from how we source parts, to how we separate waste, to how we explain to customers why a repair is often smarter than a new appliance. The next step for us is to further reduce our carbon footprint per repair and continue to lower the threshold at a repair so that a sustainable choice becomes natural for everyone.”
What does this mean for you as a customer?
Very specifically, when you have your phone repaired at ThePhoneLab, you can now be sure that you are choosing an approach that has been independently tested for sustainability. No greenwashing, but a seal of approval with teeth. Each repair saves, on average, tens of kilos of CO₂ compared to the production of a new phone, multiplied across all our stores, and that adds up.
We thank Green Done for the critical journey, and especially our customers and employees: without you, this step would not have happened. On to the next milestone.
