Help, I can’t make calls with my iPhone anymore!
Even though so much more is possible with a phone these days than just making calls, this is still one of the most important features. So the moment this does not work, it is very annoying. Fortunately, there are some things you can try yourself before something really needs to be repaired. In this blog, we will discuss the options and try to get your iPhone ready for full use again!
- Check airplane mode
- Check your signal strength
- Give the phone a reset
- Review your network settings
- Update your iOS
- Check your SIM card
- Contact your provider
Check airplane mode
Look for a small plane at the top of your screen. If so, airplane mode is on and all connections are disabled. As a result, you can’t make calls either. Turn this off by opening the control panel. To do this, drag down from the top right (on phones with home button, this is from the bottom of the screen), and then click on the airplane. This also requires you to unlock your SIM card again, if you have a code set.
Check your signal strength
Often the first problems with calling can be traced back to service, or signal strength. For example, you may find yourself in a place where it is difficult for your iPhone to connect to the telephone pole and therefore you cannot make calls. You often have the best connection when you are outside, and in a populated area. Here there is almost always a pole nearby and you can see that the service goes up quickly.
Give the phone a reset
Sometimes an iPhone’s operating system has a minor hang-up, this suddenly causes certain components to stop working. Fortunately, this can often be quickly resolved by giving the device a reset. You do this by pressing the volume up button once, pressing the volume down button once and then pressing and holding the power button. Keep pressing this button until the screen fades black and then shows the Apple logo again. Then you can release the button and the cycle is complete.
Review your network settings
Of course, there may be settings that have been accidentally changed or are suddenly turned off. So check with the phone app to make sure you haven’t accidentally turned on the do not disturb feature or blocked numbers. To make sure all the settings are correct, you can reset the network settings through the settings. This is done through general, then click on “General,” “Reset,” and lastly “Restore network settings.
Update your iOS
Software problems can also occur the moment the device is not up to date, preventing you from making calls. So try updating the device and see if the problems are fixed after that.
Check your SIM card
In order to connect to the network and thus make calls, it is important that the SIM card works properly. So try removing your SIM card from the device, clean the SIM card and put it back into your iPhone. If this brings no improvement, try inserting another SIM card into your device, that way you can see if the problem is with the SIM card, or with your device itself. Also check if your own SIM card works in another phone.
Contact your provider
Now if another SIM card does work in your phone, the problem is with your SIM card. To solve these problems, it is best to visit or contact them via chat. For example, you can ask them to check if all your subscription account settings are still correct or if you can get a new SIM card.
Stop by the store
If none of these options fix the problems, feel free to come in and see us, this way we can also check if there is still something wrong with the iPhone itself that is preventing you from making calls. There we can also give an indication with what any costs are to make repairs.
