About Léon

Léon has worked at ThePhoneLab as Head of Partnerships since February 2026. Although he only recently became an official part of the team, his involvement with ThePhoneLab started years earlier. Since 2018, he has been in regular contact with founder Boris Blijham and thought about collaborations and contacts within the telecom world.

That experience doesn’t come out of the blue. In fact, Léon has been in the telecom business since 1990 and experienced the rise of mobile telephony in the Netherlands from close up. In the early years of mobile communication, it was anything but self-evident that everyone could be reached at all times. Even so, during that period he experienced cab drivers cursing and ranting in the store when they could not be reached by their customers, while a month earlier they had never heard of a cell phone. It was precisely this pioneering period that made the telecom world so interesting to him. In the years that followed, Léon built up a broad entrepreneurial experience. Among other things, he founded his own telecom chain’ Road Phone, which eventually grew to sixteen stores spread throughout the Netherlands. In addition to the consumer market, he was also active in the business telecom sector. Because of these years of experience, he knows the industry, the parties and the developments like no other.

At ThePhoneLab, Léon focuses primarily on building strategic partnerships. As Head of Partnerships, he works to build relationships with insurers, telecom and IT service providers and other organizations that can contribute to better and smoother service for customers. The goal is to make repair and claims processes simpler, faster and more transparent for consumers.

In addition to his work, Léon likes to keep moving. He is on the padel court several times a week and also has a creative hobby. When he gave his daughter a DJ course as a present, he became infected with the DJ virus. In his spare time, he regularly stands behind his own DJ set and mixes music, often with a modern twist on classic disco. So even though Léon was in the telecom business before the average ThePhoneLab specialist was born, his leisure activities are anything but old school.
