About Koen
Koen has been working at ThePhoneLab as area manager in The Hague since September 2024. From that role he is ultimately responsible for the stores on the Denneweg and Frederik Hendriklaan. He always does this from the floor and behind the counter. Here he also sets a good example for the many new specialists who pass the revue to be trained by Koen.
Koen rolled into the repair business when he worked at another company in 2016 in a role around technical support for smartphones. When the decision was made there to set up their own repair service, he was given the opportunity to start it. After a short training session, they were soon at the workbench themselves. His first iPhone 4S repair still took hours, but it was the beginning of a profession he was fully committed to. Much he taught himself by simply continuing to try, figure out and learn from each repair.
Koen is known for his broad technical knowledge and curiosity about less obvious repairs. He actually likes it when a device or problem is not standard. One repair he still thinks about often is a rare Elephone, a Chinese device where almost everything was soldered on. With a lot of patience and creativity, he still managed to repair the device successfully.
What customers especially appreciate about Koen is his openness and honesty. He clearly explains what happens during a repair and is transparent when something goes differently than expected. For him it’s all about the same goal: customers and colleagues who leave with a good feeling.
Outside of work, Koen likes to be active. He loves bouldering, climbing and long walks, but is just as happy to sit with friends in the pub or at the table in a good restaurant. And at home, too, there is often something apart: from a racing bike to a DIY project at home. As soon as there’s something to tinker with, he’s ready.
