With these 5 tips, your smartphone will survive King’s Day 2018

Just a little more patience and it’s King’s Day again. In any case, we are looking forward to it. Not only because you get to walk down the street with beer in your hand for 24 hours, but also because King’s Day is the day most smartphones are killed. The more broken phones, the better things are going for us. But because we love working smartphones even more, we give you 5 tips to keep your phone in one piece and not lose it on King’s Day.

Splash, peter, pater, nice on the water

Nothing is more fun than taking a boat through the canals of your favorite city on King’s Day. And of course, to rub in your friends and family that you are having a nicer day than they are, selfies need to be taken for Facebook and Instagram. Still, too bad if a drunken fellow passenger accidentally knocks your very expensive iPhone out of your hands and it lands with an elegant splash at the bottom of the canal.

So be alert when on a boat. Want to be absolutely sure your phone will survive the sailing? Just leave it safely on land or put it in a float, waterproof bag. King’s Day is too short to be on Instagram anyway.

King’s Day = pickpocket day

We don’t want to give anyone the wrong idea, but thousands of drunk, dancing young people are obviously heaven for someone who has made pickpocketing his profession. A real pickpocket always knows how to snatch someone from their smartphone, but it’s up to you to make it as difficult as possible for them.

Tuck your phone behind a zipper or button closure. Don’t put it in an open jacket or pants pocket and certainly not in your butt pocket (ladies!). Then you might as well give it directly to a villain.

Give your phone privacy

The above tip is useful not only to prevent your pocket-sized best friend from falling into the hands of the wrong person, but also to prevent you from losing it. It often happens that someone at a festival wants to get some more coins from their pocket and loses their phone in the process without noticing.

So make sure your phone has its own pocket (with zipper) so it cannot fall out unnoticed. Another advantage: the screen of your phone is not completely covered in scratches at the end of the day.

Find my (i)Phone

Did evil happen and your smartphone disappeared on King’s Day? Then enable the search (and find) option on your smartphone. These are actually on your phone by default, but if you don’t have it now download it for iPhone here. And for Android here. Configure it right away, and on King’s Day before you head out the door, check to make sure it’s all set up correctly.

Has your phone been stolen and do you know where the thief is? Do involve the police then. Your smartphone is not worth putting yourself in danger.

Basic Protection

We saved the best tip for last. Surely number one smartphone misery on King’s Day is and always has been a broken screen. You can give it its own pocket, put it under lock and key or leave it in a waterproof bag, but when inebriated, an accident happens quickly. You drop it out of your hands and there’s a big fat crack in the screen. Therefore, tip number one: go for basic protection (and otherwise stop by ThePhoneLab for a phone repair). Put a sturdy case on your smartphone with raised edges and use a screen protector.

That way, you greatly reduce the chances of cracks and scratches and you can focus on King’s Day on what matters most: DRINKING BEER. Cheers!
