Your iPad won’t boot up? Super annoying. We explain in this blog what could be going on if your iPad is not booting up. Here, we address the following points:

  • Your iPad won’t boot up? Check the power supply
  • iPad won’t boot up and gets stuck on Apple logo
  • iPad won’t turn on due to battery problems
  • iPad reset

Your iPad won’t boot up? Check the power supply

You may have already thought of this; it is important to first rule out that your problem is not due to a faulty adapter or charging cable. Fortunately, you can easily test this. You do this by using a different adapter or charging cable than the one you originally used. Also, don’t forget to double check if the problem is due to a faulty outlet!

Another problem affecting the power supply is a clogged charging port. Dust and dirt in your charging port can prevent the charging port (also called the connector) from connecting to the charger. Then the iPad won’t turn on either. You can remove the dust yourself with a thin object. But be careful with this, you may damage some things internally. Want to be sure of your case? If so, we recommend having this done by a specialist to avoid permanent damage to the charging port. At ThePhoneLab, we do this for free: you can always stop by for a free APK. During this, we will clean your charging port (and other ports), perform a test on all functions and give your device a good cleaning.

Do you recognize this problem? Then there’s a chance your iPad is stuck in a bootloop. This means that your iPad continuously reboots. A bootloop can occur with hardware problems; for example, water damage or a broken battery. Want to know more about the boat run? Then read the blog here where we explain this problem for the iPhone.

Are you assured that nothing crazy happened to your iPad? Chances are it’s a software problem. You can solve this easily in most cases. For example, you could try a hard reset or restore your iPad.

iPad won’t boot up due to battery issues

In some cases, the battery is in such poor condition that you experience problems starting up your iPad. Each battery has a different lifespan that we influence by our use. Not only does usage play an important role, the method of charging also affects the lifespan. It is important that you always use a certified charger. Using an incorrectly certified cable can damage the Tristar (power management) chip in your iPad. This can eventually result in charging problems. In some cases, the iPad can no longer be charged at all. By using a proper charger, your battery will last a lot longer. Want to read more about iPad charging problems? Then check out this blog: iPad not charging. At ThePhoneLab, we typically recommend replacing your iPad battery every 1-2 years if you want to be assured of the highest quality battery in your iPad.

iPad reset

Still haven’t figured it out and your iPad still won’t boot? Sometimes the problem can be solved by a hard reset. By using a certain key combination, you can reset your iPad without losing data. Hard reset restarts all systems on your iPad. The key combination you need for this is:

  • Models without a home button: briefly press the volume up button. Briefly press the volume down button. Then press and hold the power button until the iPad reboots.
  • Models with home button: hold the home button and the top button (or side button) at the same time until you see the Apple logo.

Did the hard reset not help? Chances are you need to perform a software restore. But what does this mean? In a software restore, you restore all factory settings to your iPad. The big disadvantage is that you will lose all the data. Therefore, it is important to always back up your iPad. You can perform a software restore using a Mac or Windows computer. If you don’t have a Mac, you can always download iTunes and then perform the software restore through iTunes. Want to know more about this? Then it is wise to stop by a professional repair shop.
