Three new iPhones: here’s what to expect

What’s new about the iPhones?

Most of you probably remember what Apple came out with last year: the
iPhone X
. Admittedly the most expensive device Apple ever released, but an amount that could be explained. With numerous new features, a new design and, of course, the borderless screen, the iPhone X could almost be called a gap in the market.

Last week, three successors to the iPhone X were launched: the Xs, the iPhone Xs Max and the iPhone XR.

iPhone Xs

The Xs is the outright successor to the iPhone X. What’s new? Actually, not so much. It has a new chip in it that will make the device faster. Face ID will have to work faster as a result. It will cross the counter for about the same price as an iPhone X. The latter will be taken out of production immediately, depriving Apple of your chance to buy perhaps the best iPhone ever at a good discount.

iPhone Xs Max

The iPhone Xs Max is the largest phone Apple has ever released. Not because of the size of the device, but mainly because of the size of the screen.

Spectacular if you like watching videos on your phone, but tricky to use if you have small hands. In fact, the lack of the home button means you control the iPhone Xs Max the same way as the iPhone X, and that means a lot of swiping from top to bottom. For example, to bring up your notification screen and your control panel. Even if you have large hands, it is quite complicated to make this movement with one hand.

What else is new? The prize. The device is not only the largest ever, but also the most expensive ever. The entry-level model is going away for €1259. The most expensive model, with 256GB, goes over the counter for €1659.00.

iPhone XR

This model is the most likeable iPhone Apple came out with last week. After all, it is a somewhat stripped-down iPhone X, at a somewhat stripped-down price. Some call it the budget version, but with an entry price of around €850, we think that’s a bold nickname.

The device is lower in price because they replaced the expensive OLED screen with an LCD screen. That means lower image quality. They also removed Force-touch (the feature where you can press harder on your screen) from this model and the smartphone features one instead of two cameras on the back.

The iPhone XR has a borderless screen, which definitely means the end of the home button and fingerprint scanner. The XR also has a large size, which again means the device is awkward if you have small hands.

What makes the device especially likeable are the new colors you can choose from. Whereas the XS models are available in the usual colors, the XR is available in no less than 6 colors: blue, white, black, yellow, orange/pink and red. That’s actually the most innovative thing this year in iPhone land. Apple itself is seemingly confident that the device will be a hit. Indeed, the Americans are building roughly
300,000 per day

What do we think of the new iPhones?

Of course, we did not have high expectations for the new iPhones, as the “S models” were always a minor upgrade over the previous devices. The three new iPhones are undoubtedly good devices, with the quality you can expect from Apple.
